Teen Special F/X Film Camp: Course Description
When the film industry needs to create the impossible and bend reality on-screen, they call in special effects experts. In this teen movie camp, you’ll be the F/X expert, simulating blockbuster images using 2D and 3D compositing, motion graphics, and visual effects while building on your editing skills with Adobe® After Effects® and Apple® Final Cut Pro®.

From flying balls of fire, to giant robots stalking the university halls, the sky is the limit. In this teen summer film camp, students will showcase their new talents by producing their own interactive DVD "demo reel" of special effects with the industry-powerhouse DVD authoring program, Apple DVD Studio Pro. Create custom music sound packages using the cutting edge technology in SmartSound® Sonicfire® Pro. This new version includes Mood Mapping® to give control over the mix and feel of the music. An introduction to professional level plug-ins from DigiEffects™ and Composite Wizard™ will round out this cutting edge experience.

This teen camp will provide aspiring filmmakers with an in-depth perspective of the technical aspects of post production. As an exclusive teen movie camp course, students must have previous digital video editing experience and an interest in pursuing the behind-the-scenes art of Special Effects. This specialty summer film camp is intensive. Projects will be burned to DVD for home screening.

Who should take this course?
This course is for serious teen filmmakers looking for avenues to enhance their visions with advanced editing techniques and eye-popping special effects. Film camp students must have a firm understanding of the fundamentals of digital video editing in order to enroll. Previous experience with Apple Final Cut Pro is strongly recommended. If you have already taken our Digital Video Editing course and are an advanced user, this course is right for you. Because this is an intensive course for older, more experienced students, the group may occasionally decide to continue to work on projects instead of participating in alternative camp activities.

How We Teach
iD Tech Camps students receive the highest caliber technology education any summer camp has to offer! Students in this summer movie camp for teens will be able to move along faster and more independently, or collaborate utilizing our customized lessons—while still receiving our gold standard 1-on-1 instruction (average 6 students per staff). Using the latest in hardware and software, our all-adult staff works hands-on with each student from project theory to completion (you won’t find counselors-in-training at iD). Repeating this course over several weeks?
Our curriculum in this special effects film camp is designed so that students can return for multiple weeks, taking their filmmaking skills to the next level. Our new curriculum is designed for intermediate through advanced learners, allowing each student to move along at their own pace with customized lessons for a fun and appropriate challenge. It is not uncommon for students to stretch their skills in this course for 3, 4, and even 5 consecutive weeks. Below is an example of how your student’s skill level may increase if they take this course for multiple weeks.
